BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Helen

HELEN MUNRO - CHAIR
Helen first became involved with volunteering in 1975, the BBC's first ever Adult Literacy Campaign "On the Move" which recruited volunteers as 1.1 tutors for students with literacy difficulties.
She spent 18 years with Strathclyde Regional Council, at first working in the field of Adult education working in deprived communities all over Strathclyde. She also gained experience of funding and grants. She moved on to Education Directorate and went to Lanarkshire. In 1996 she joined Stirling Council and in 1999/2000 took on responsibility for Community Care and Criminal Justice and, says Helen, "discovered a new range of voluntary organisations with an amazing range of volunteers". Since her retirement in 2005 she is keeping very busy. As well as being on the Board of Directors at The Volunteer Centre, she currently volunteers with the Childrens Panel and Macmillan Cancer Relief, Counselling & Support for Alcohol and Drugs, and PLUS the organisation to support play and leisure for children with special needs.

Claire Pierce
CLAIRE PIERCE
Claire was our Centre Manager for nearly a year and was keen to stay involved so became a Director. She has a degree in Business Management and is currently working towards a Masters in Social Work Studies. Prior to working with the VC she worked in commercial companies and found the voluntary sector to be an interesting change. She says “I believe that volunteering has a crucial role to play in our lives as members of our communities. I have seen first hand the benefits it affords volunteers and the organisations they help. Volunteering brings us together and helps us to understand and tolerate difference”
