Andrew Lansley visits
Open Door
Shadow Health Secretary Andrew Lansley and local parliamentary candidate, Bob Dalrymple, have visited the Open Door in Stirling, to meet volunteers and learn about their work.
Bob Dalrymple, Conservative Candidate for Stirling, said:
“The Open Door project does fantastic work, helping people with mental health problems fulfil their potential. Mental illness is still often misunderstood, and these volunteers are making a real difference in breaking down those barriers.
”Andrew Lansley said:“I was very glad to have the chance to meet volunteers and organisers who are doing so much to help people with mentalhealth problems, and reach out to the community of Stirling. David Cameron has committed us to working through community organisers with charity and voluntary organisations to create a stronger society to help all of us. I was particularly pleased to be able to discuss how we can work with young people better to grow their self-confidence."
Joanne Channing, manager said "Volunteer Centre Stirling's, Open Door Service has been supporting adults into volunteering for over 9 years. Referrals come from mental health, learning disability, addictions and physical disabilities groups. This was a great opportunity for the Open Door Staff, Volunteer Buddies and volunteers as well as partnership Organisations to speak to Members of Parliament about volunteering, the impacts it can have on the lives of people with additional support needs and the need for the Government to provide more resources for voluntary organisations throughout Britain."
